My name is Hae Kyung Lim, also known as Ella Lim. I established the law office of Lim & Company P.L. in 2007 but have over 20 years of experience as an attorney. This law office was created and functions as a unique concierge approach to legal services to accommodate your schedule. This is my unique concierge service that I believe nobody else can offer you.  Rather than you scheduling an appointment to see the attorney, you actually schedule an appointment for me to come see you.  (NOTE: Due to COVID-19, appointments for video conferencing is also now available.)

My ultimate personal goal is that you never feel like just a client, rather like a personal friend. This way we can develop a trusting relationship that can last a lifetime.  If you are in need of an Estate Planning attorney, Probate attorney, Guardianship attorney, or Business law attorney in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida and surrounding areas, I may be able to assist you.  Some common questions that may help guide you in your quest.

Do you have any of the following questions and do not know where to start:
1. I just lost a family member who lives in Jacksonville, Florida. Do I have to open a probate?
2. My family member, who lives in Florida, is unable to take care of himself. How can I help take care of him?
3. I want to start a new business in Florida but not sure how to do it. Where do I start?
4. I want to make sure my family is taken care of if something happens to me. What do I need to have?

As an Estate planning attorney, my goal is to understand what your wishes are and to create a legal plan to ensure that your wishes are fulfilled. This includes making sure you have someone to help make your medical decisions and/or financial decisions, if and when you may be unable to do it for yourself. It also will prevent unnecessary family conflicts over assets and money because your “estate planning” spells it all out. Most people don’t think they need an estate planning attorney because they feel they don’t own a lot or don’t have a large estate value. But, this is truly not the determining factor. The type of assets you own, whether there is a particular person you want to inherit an asset, or if there is a second marriage involved with or without stepchildren, are some common factors as to whether you may need your estate planning prepared. Usually, a person will start his/her estate planning because he/she has experienced first hand the turmoil in a probate process where his/her family member did not do an estate planning and vowed that the turmoil will not happen to his/her immediate family.  Click here to read more about the Estate Planning Process.

As a Probate lawyer, I usually am asked to represent a petitioner to start the probate case because a loved one passed with assets but cannot access the account or asset and are being told that he/she has to start a probate. When a person passes away and the asset does not designate a beneficiary or if title is required to pass ownership, then a probate must be started and require court orders. A Last Will and Testament is a legal document that a court recognizes and most likely will admit into a probate case, unless it is contested. However, the Will does not automatically pass assets to the family members. The Will just legally states who is to inherit what asset. If there is no Will, Florida Statutes lay out how inheritances are passed to heirs and spouses. Click here to read more about the Probate Process.

As a Guardianship attorney, there are times when either a tragedy occurs or when a person with mental capacity issues is over the age of 18 is required to start a guardianship to appoint a guardian over the person that requires assistance with his/her medical and financial matters. Florida law requires that all guardians be represented by an attorney. Click here to read more about the Guardianship Process.

As a Business or Corporate attorney, I am asked to start a new business, analyze a current business model, create and review business contracts, employment agreements, or leases. In addition, the ownership of the business is reviewed to ensure that it is incorporated into his/her estate planning for succession planning.
